Comparison
Browser bookmarks vs WhyMark: address vs reason
Your browser already saves links. WhyMark saves why you saved them — and finds them again by your words. Updated October 2026.
Choose WhyMark if
Choose WhyMark if your bookmarks bar is a graveyard: hundreds of links you never reopen because the reason faded. Search by what you remember, not by title.
Choose Browser bookmarks if
Keep browser bookmarks if you save a handful of daily tools and open them from the toolbar. For five favorites, nothing beats the built-in bar.

Where WhyMark wins
- Your note turns a dead link into a findable memory.
- Full-text search across everything you saved — not just titles.
- One library across browsers instead of scattered folders.
Where Browser bookmarks wins
- Zero setup — already in the browser you use.
- Instant toolbar access for daily tools.
- Free forever, no account needed.
The honest difference
Browser bookmarks store the address. That works while the pile is small — ten tools on a toolbar need no context.
Past a hundred saves, the address stops being enough. You remember the problem you were solving, not the page title. WhyMark stores that problem statement with the link and searches it.
What to check before you switch
WhyMark is pre-launch and web-only for now — if one-click saving from the toolbar is essential today, stay where you are and join the waitlist for the extension.
There is no importer yet either: early saves are added by hand, and the extension with import is next on the roadmap.
Questions
Can I import my browser bookmarks?
Not yet — there is no importer today, so early saves are added by hand: paste a link, add your why. A browser extension with one-click saving and importing is next on the roadmap.
Do I have to leave my browser bookmarks?
No. Keep daily tools on the toolbar; move the research pile — the links you save “for later” — into WhyMark where the reason stays attached.
Where do my saves live?
In the cloud, on our servers — reachable from any browser you sign into. No local files to lose, no sync to set up.
